Monsters are coming to attack our village, that's horrible! Would you like to buy this new axe and shield so you can go fight it? Yep, this is Bargain Quest, a game where we are not playing as heroes, we just care about the hero.... 's money. Saving the village is just a desirable side effect of making riches.
This is a light, medium light game with a lot of mechanism put together, card drafting, hand and resource management, take that, auction - and honestly? It works quite well.
In order to really enjoy this game, you need to be really immersed in the theme and the "story". Some people dislike this game because of the take that/luck element- you equipped the hero visiting your store with the best equipments, but then during adventure the take that card ruined everything and the hero is killed in action.
This can be frustrating if you are treating this hero as YOUR hero, but they're not, they're just heroes who happen to visit your store and well, you got their money, what happens next is que sera sera... Your ability to embrace this concept will really affect your enjoyment playing this game. If you are one of those people that's purely all about strategy then it will get frustrating fast.
For me? I like this game. It scratches a certain itch.
Yeah the best thing about the game even though you are playing against people you’re really playing your own game your success is based on your choices and a little bit of luck
Its fun game
The card quality is low though they have all curled up and we have only played it four times some cards like the upgrade cards haven’t been used at all and have curled
My friends and I love this game! The art is absolutely beautiful and wonderfully diverse, and the gameplay is really interesting and unique. It took us a round or two to get used to the different stages of play, but once we figured it all out it was great!
What a great game!
The cute art makes it popular with my nieces and nephews and the lovely balance between players interaction and individual (and simultaneous) actions wins it with my friends.
I also own the solo mode expansion which is great when your day was long, you don't feel like sharing and just want to escape to monsters and heroes for a moment :) However, the solo mode rules are a bit loose and you either have to be creative or consult BGG.
As always, mostly we play Bargain Quest with two players and the experience is wonderful. It feels like a big box game but plays under half an hour.
I can absolutely recommend Bargain Quest and will look forward to my next game.
