The Big Book of Madness is a co-operative deck-building game in which the players are magic students who must act as a team to turn all the pages of the book, then shut it by defeating the terrible monsters they've just freed.

Each player has their own element deck that they build during the game and use for several purposes, such as learning or casting a spell, adding a new element to their deck, destroy or healing a curse.

Spells allow you to support your playmates, improve your deck, draw cards, etc. , but the monsters from the book fight back. Each comes with terrible curses that are triggered every turn unless you dispel them in time. They will make you discard elements, add madness cards to your deck, or lose spells...

If you manage to turn six pages and defeat all of the monsters, you win the game!

Big Book of Madness;

I love deck builders, but being cooperative it feels really different, the spells and the ability to support each other with the support pool and how easy it is to lose control of the madness it's just a fun tricky game!

A beautiful game with great replay-ability

I found this game after a review of cooperative deck-building card games. My only previous experience with such is: Harry Potter-Hogwarts Battle, which my family and I also love.
The cards and board artwork really is beautiful, but I would say the actual gameplay is my favourite feature. The 6 rounds move along at a steady pace, and you never quite catch your breath as you continue defeating curses, while trading spells and element cards, all while inevitably going a little bit (but hopefully not completely!) mad. Having 8 unique characters in a 2-5 player game, plus the extra spells, curses and Monsters means we have yet to face the exact same Big Book of Madness game twice.
