Marvel Champions is a cooperative card game where all the players are working together to fight the villain. You can play single player or up to four players, with the game scaling very well with the number of players. One core set is all you need to play with 4 players. We have been having a lot of fun playing with the 5 heroes, and three villains in the core set and learning how each character plays.
One core set box allows for either 1-4 polayer
Great game with some really cool heroes and villains so far. Can't wait for the Red skull expansion.
I'm a long time Arkham horror LCG player. Wasn't thinking of starting another LCG but i loved Marvel super heroes. So I saw a few favorable reviews from gamers that i trust so i thought I'll just pick up the core set and give it a go. The fact that FFG have decided to include enough cards and components for 4 player is a bonus.
What can i say? I absolutely love this game. It play fast, have a very unique deck building options, lots of meaningful choices and very thematic .
Once you get the hang of the rules the game just moves at a very fast pace.
Deck building is done by picking your character first which have it own 15 card pool that you must use. You then select what aspect you want to pair the character with. There are four aspects. Leadership, aggression, protection and justice. Each of the aspect are very unique and makes the character plays differently. There also some Basic Neutral cards that anyone can use too. Your deck will roughly consist of 15 signature cards, 15 Aspects cards and 10 Basic cards.
There's a lot of meaningful choice to be had in this game. Playing cards cost resources and each card have a resources value of either 1 or 2. A typical turn can go sometime like this. I'm playing SpiderMan and in hero mode his hand size is 5. let say i have Nick Fury ally card, Swinging web kick and aunt May in my hand. Both Nick Fury and Swinging web kick cost 4 resources to play therefore I'm going to have to discard most of my hand to play one or the other card. But i'm also low on Hit points and aunt May can help me recover if I flip back to Peter Parker. decisions decisions.
The cards design are very well done, If you are a fan of Marvel. The designer really capture the way the heroes and villain fought. Once your Iron man suit is complete you can't help but utter the phase" I am Iron man".
The win, lost condition is also very straight forward. Heroes have to beat the villain until the villain reach zero health, and at the same time making sure the villain does not complete it's scheme. Again the more players the higher the treat level before the villain has reach their scheme. Or the villain could just reduces all the player hit points to zeros.
All in all it is are fun, fast pace game that anyone with any interest with the super heroes genre should enjoy. Especially if you are a Marvel fan.
Marvel Champions The Card Game Core Set
This is now my most played game of 2020. I am primarily enjoying it solo, but have had fun with it in a couple of multiplayer games. I love the gameplay and the theme, and am getting into the deckbuilding aspect of it as well. Highly recommended.
