Expansion for Base-gameRacingSports
Product Information
LEVEL UP YOUR GAMING EXPERIENCE
Pretty much a must have expansion if you like Flamme Rouge. More courses, extra track tiles, adds a 5th and 6th player, and adds rules/cards for including bot players in your races (great when you only have 2-3 human players).
Sometimes expansions can feel like an afterthought or bog down the core of a game with unnecessary complexity for little gain, but Peloton is NONE of those things - it just gives you "more Flamme Rouge" and has only enriched my enjoyment of this great game. Highly recommended.
Coupled with the Meteo expansion (which adds random weather), the Peleton expansion for Flamme Rouge adds more options to enhance your racing experience, while not increasing the difficulty. The beauty of Flamme Rouge is that everything makes thematic sense, meaning any racing fan will immediately understand the rules, and within minutes so will everyone else. The Peleton expansion is no different.
There are extra track types - cobblestones, which narrow the track down to one lane at some parts, and don't allow slipstreaming, and supply zones, which are three lanes wide and have a minimum speed of 4. Accompanying these are new suggested track layouts.
The other main feature of this expansion is that a 5th and 6th player are included, with many variants on using these. For instance you can have a standard 6 player race, but you can also have up to 12 separate players using one rider each.
There are also rules for adding in computer players - a peleton squad that keeps a high pace, and several muscle teams causing more chaos out on the track. We've had fun with these (although not as much luck beating them). While we haven't tried it, it also allows for a solo game against computer opponents.
Also, due to the cluttered start line using 5-6 players there are new "breakaway start" rules where players bid to be a part of the breakaway, and up to two riders start 5 spaces ahead of the bunch.
Overall, every part of this expansion is welcome. We mix it up and don't always use everything, but that variety is important to this game and it's easy to imagine every race as being a part of a Grand Tour. My family plays this with our youngest being 7, so it's an easy choice when we decide to pull out a game. For me this was a must have expansion.
